Key Takeaways:
Most people shopping for a B-complex supplement look at the numbers on the label. Higher doses, bigger percentages of daily value, and more methylated ingredients all seem like signs of a superior supplement. But what if those numbers aren't telling the whole story?
B vitamins are essential for everything from cellular energy production to brain health and methylation. However, the way your body absorbs, converts, and uses these nutrients matters just as much—or even more—as how much you take.
That's why we decided to rethink our original BodyBio Vitamin B+ formula.
Rather than simply assuming a high dose B complex was the most effective option, we rebuilt Vitamin B+ around a simple philosophy: Right Form. Right Dose. Better B's.
The result is a precision B-complex featuring thoughtfully selected, bioavailable, and metabolically flexible forms of B vitamins designed to support your body's natural biochemical processes.*
Here's what changed, why we made these decisions, and what they mean for your cellular health.

Why Your Body Needs B Vitamins in the First Place
B vitamins are a family of eight water-soluble nutrients that participate in hundreds of essential biochemical reactions throughout your body. Most function as cofactors, meaning they help enzymes carry out the chemical reactions your cells depend on every day.
Without adequate B vitamins, your cells can't efficiently convert food into energy, maintain healthy nervous system function, or support important metabolic processes.
Some of their most important benefits include:
- Cellular energy: B vitamins help your mitochondria convert carbohydrates, fats, and proteins into usable cellular energy (ATP).
- Brain and nervous system health: Several B vitamins support neurotransmitter production, cognitive function, and healthy nerve signaling.
- Methylation: Folate (B9), B12, and B6 support interconnected pathways involved in DNA synthesis, homocysteine metabolism, and cellular maintenance.
- Red blood cell production: Folate and B12 are essential for healthy red blood cell formation.
- Healthy metabolism: B vitamins help regulate the biochemical reactions involved in processing nutrients and maintaining normal cellular function.
These nutrients don't work in isolation. Many B vitamins participate in interconnected metabolic pathways, which is why a thoughtfully formulated B-complex can be useful for supporting multiple aspects of cellular health at once.*
The Problem With High-Dose, Highly Methylated B-Complex Supplements
For years, the supplement industry has treated higher potency as a selling point. More milligrams, higher daily values, and more methylated ingredients are often marketed as signs of a better B-complex.
But when it comes to B vitamins, more isn't always better.
Your body needs specific forms of these nutrients to carry out different biochemical reactions. Some B vitamins must undergo several conversion steps before they can participate in those processes, while others are supplied in forms that are closer to the coenzymes your cells use.
That doesn't mean every B vitamin needs to be supplied in its most active or methylated form. In fact, certain nutrients can be useful in forms that allow your body some flexibility in how they're metabolized.
Individual tolerance is an important factor when choosing B vitamin forms and dosages.
Some people report feeling overstimulated when taking high doses of methylated nutrients, particularly methylfolate (methylated B9). Symptoms like restlessness, headaches, or difficulty sleeping aren't universal, and research on these responses is limited, but they highlight why an exclusively methylated formula may not be the best fit for everyone.
Our original Vitamin B+ was designed with a more targeted, high-potency approach. With the new formula, we wanted to create something more intentional for everyday cellular support, without automatically maximizing every ingredient.
That meant taking a closer look at the forms, doses, and functions of each nutrient.
4 Reasons We Reformulated BodyBio Vitamin B+
1. Folinic Acid: A More Flexible Approach to Folate
One of the most important factors of Vitamin B+ is the inclusion of folinic acid (calcium folinate), a metabolically flexible form of vitamin B9.
Folate is essential for DNA synthesis, red blood cell production, and methylation, a biochemical process involved in everything from neurotransmitter metabolism to cellular maintenance.
However, not all forms of folate behave the same way in your body.
Folic acid is a popular form of B9 that requires several conversion steps before it can participate in active folate pathways. This is the kind found in lower quality B vitamin supplements.
Methylfolate (5-MTHF) is a methylated form that directly participates in the methionine cycle, helping convert homocysteine into methionine. It’s a great form that your body doesn’t need to convert to use, but it can be overstimulating for some individuals.
Folinic acid is a reduced, but non-methylated form of folate that bypasses the initial conversion steps required for folic acid. It can enter several folate-dependent pathways and be converted into other folate forms according to your body's biochemical needs.
This flexibility is one reason we intentionally chose folinic acid instead of relying on methylfolate.
What About Folinic Acid and MTHFR?
You may have heard of the MTHFR gene, which helps your body produce an enzyme involved in converting folate into its methylated form. Certain MTHFR gene variants can reduce the activity of this enzyme, potentially influencing folate metabolism.
Folinic acid can be a useful option for people with MTHFR variants because it bypasses some of the earlier conversion steps required for folic acid. However, converting folinic acid into methylfolate still requires the MTHFR enzyme.
Having an MTHFR variant doesn't automatically mean you need methylfolate, nor does it mean folinic acid is the best choice for everyone. Your individual folate needs depend on several factors, including your overall nutritional status and metabolic health.
For individuals who don't tolerate highly methylated supplements well, folinic acid offers another option for supporting folate-dependent processes without supplying folate exclusively in its methylated form.
The takeaway: Not everything needs to be methylated. Folinic acid offers a flexible approach to folate supplementation that supports multiple cellular pathways.*
2. Three Forms of B12 for More Complete Cellular Support
Most B-complex supplements rely on a single form of vitamin B12. But B12 participates in several important biochemical processes, and different forms play complementary roles throughout the body.
That's why our new Vitamin B+ combines three forms of B12:
- Methylcobalamin: A coenzyme form of B12 that supports methylation, including the conversion of homocysteine into methionine. This pathway is important for producing compounds involved in cellular maintenance and nervous system function.*
- Adenosylcobalamin: The mitochondrial coenzyme form of B12, which supports the metabolism of certain fatty acids and amino acids. It plays an important role in pathways connected to cellular energy creation.*
- Hydroxocobalamin: A versatile precursor form that your cells can convert into methylcobalamin or adenosylcobalamin according to their biochemical needs.*
Think of these forms as complementary tools for supporting B12-dependent processes rather than three versions of the exact same ingredient.
Your body can convert different supplemental forms of B12 into the coenzymes it needs, so a three-form formula isn't necessarily superior to every single-form supplement. However, combining these forms reflects our goal of providing thoughtfully selected nutrients that support multiple aspects of cellular function.
Together, they provide a comprehensive approach to B12 supplementation, supporting methylation, mitochondrial metabolism, and nervous system health.* Three areas we need support in now more than ever!
3. Bioavailable B Vitamins That Work With Your Body
Another major priority in our reformulation was choosing B vitamins based on how your body uses them, rather than simply what looks most impressive on a supplement label.
That includes several carefully selected nutrient forms:
Benfotiamine (B1): A lipid-soluble form that helps support thiamine status and healthy carbohydrate metabolism.*
Riboflavin-5-phosphate (B2): A phosphorylated form of riboflavin associated with the body's production of flavin coenzymes, which are essential for cellular energy metabolism.*
Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P/B6): The active coenzyme form of vitamin B6, involved in amino acid metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, and other essential cellular reactions.*
These forms were selected with bioavailability and cellular physiology in mind. While some still require processing before your cells can use them, they provide intentional alternatives to conventional nutrient forms.
The goal isn't to eliminate every conversion step or force your body to use nutrients in a particular way. It's to provide forms that can efficiently participate in the biochemical processes your cells already perform.
4. Less Biotin, More Thoughtful Dosing
One of the biggest numerical changes in the new Vitamin B+ formula is the amount of biotin.
Our original formula contained 4,000 mcg of biotin per serving. The reformulated Vitamin B+ contains just 400 mcg, a 90% reduction.
Why such a significant change?
Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, plays an important role in carbohydrate, fat, and amino acid metabolism. However, higher doses aren't necessarily more beneficial, particularly for people who already get adequate biotin through their diet.
There's also an important practical consideration: high-dose biotin can interfere with certain laboratory tests, including some thyroid hormone and cardiac troponin tests, potentially leading to misleading results.
While 400 mcg is still a meaningful dose for most adults, reducing the amount reflects our more intentional approach to everyday supplementation.
This same philosophy guided the broader reformulation. Instead of choosing the highest possible dose of every nutrient, we considered its form, function, and intended use.
The new Vitamin B+ isn't about maximizing the numbers. It's about making every ingredient count.
Who Is the New BodyBio Vitamin B+ For?
Our reformulated Vitamin B+ was designed to provide foundational B-vitamin support for a broader range of people, with an emphasis on everyday cellular function.
It may be especially appealing if you:
- Want daily nutritional support for cellular energy, metabolism, and nervous system health.*
- Prefer a B-complex with thoughtfully selected nutrient forms and doses.
- Have an MTHFR gene variant and are exploring folate options with your healthcare practitioner.
- Find highly methylated B-complex formulas difficult to tolerate.
- Want a comprehensive B-complex without automatically choosing the highest-potency formula.
Of course, your individual nutrient needs depend on your diet, health status, medications, and other factors. The new formula still contains meaningful amounts of several B vitamins, so it's important to consider your total intake from other supplements and discuss long-term use with your healthcare practitioner.
For daily use, we recommend taking one capsule in the morning with food, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.
Better B Vitamins Start With Better Formulation
A great B-complex isn't necessarily the one with the highest percentages on the Supplement Facts label. It's one that provides the right nutrients in forms and amounts that make sense for your body's needs.
That's the thinking behind our new Vitamin B+.
By combining metabolically flexible folinic acid, three complementary forms of B12, bioavailable B vitamins, and more thoughtfully calibrated doses, we've created a formula designed to support the cellular processes that keep you functioning at your best.*
Because cellular health isn't about overwhelming your body with more nutrients. It's about giving your cells the right nutritional tools they need to do their jobs.
Right Form. Right Dose. Better B's.
